Association for Latvian Children with Movement Disabilities

Our history

The roots of the association reach back to 1999 — when several families raising children with motor disabilities began meeting regularly to discuss their shared concerns.

How it began

In 1999, several families raising children with motor disabilities began meeting regularly to discuss their shared concerns — their children's health, education and access to rehabilitation. These informal conversations gradually grew into more structured meetings.

The turning point came when rehabilitation specialists joined the group of parents and the initiative grew into something more significant. For two years the group organised educational seminars and rehabilitation trips, until the parents decided to establish an official organisation with legal status.

Official founding: 7 December 2001 in Riga.

The association "Latvian Children with Motor Disabilities" was registered to bring families together more effectively and to address the systemic challenges faced by families raising children with motor disabilities.
